Return To Play
15/Aug/2021:- at present only vaccinated players may participate in competitive matches – this is under review – training is unaffected.
Rugby clubs and facilities must comply with both their local Sports Council’s and UAE RF’s Return to Play guidelines in respect of Covid-19 safety protocols – these confirm that we are able to re-commence club training as planned on 3rd September, 2021.
Like other rugby unions around the world a phased approach to ‘return to play’ has been adopted by UAE RF, summarised below; Since 1st February 2021 we have been in Phase-4 but subject to any Sports Council restrictions regarding vaccination and age, etc.
- Phase 1: Training in small groups of 5-10 players (dependent on age); Non-Contact; 1-hr max.
- Phase-2: Squad Training; Non-Contact
- Phase-3: Squad Training; Contact
- Phase-4: Full Return to Play incl. Matches
Hygiene measures will continue to be in place and likewise prior to each training session all participants, players and volunteers, should complete an online Covid-19 Declaration.
Please note that in addition to the safeguards and precautions that clubs, and facilities, must put in place, it is also mandatory for all Coaches, Managers, Medics, Administrators and Match Officials, and U15 and above players to complete World Rugby’s Player Welfare course re. Covid-19 .
Once complete you should send a copy of your Certificate of Completion to the club’s Covid-19 Coordinator, Sean Heckford, by uploading it here .The above course is also strongly recommended for all parents and M&Y players, including those in our netball section.
Whilst we’re here we’d like to express our continued thanks to Sean Heckford and Canes’ Cheif Medical Officer, Dr Alan Kourie, who have led UAE RF MEDCOM’s efforts in producing the Return to Play Guidelines, the full version of which can be found here.
