Super 2s v Dragons 2s and 1sts v Harlequins

Well for those not around tonight the season is underway and on the first round of cup matches we won one and lost one.

A huge congratulations to the 2's for a backs to the wall and come from behind win against the Dragons 2's (although half their 1's who didn't want to go to Kuwait were out there!). After being down 12-3 the boys stormed home to take the points 15-12. The true 'dog' performance that the 'Canes are known for came to the fore and it was stalwarts and first gamers alike who led the way. Well done boys.

For the 1's it wasn't such a happy ending. With 20 minutes to go we had worked ourselves in front 18-17. However, for the last 20 minutes our fitness, discipline and game plan deserted us against a well organised Abu Dhabi team (to be fair to them), and they kicked two penalties and a field foal to take a 25-17 lead, before we tried to play catch-up in desperation and gifted them a couple of late tries. We didn't deserve a 39-18 scoreline, but it was a harsh lesson to learn. The boys can certainly expect some fitness and defensive drills this week! However, the first hour of the match certainly had a lot of positives to build on beofre taking on the old enemy next week.

A word from the chairman... Minimize

Hurricanes chairmanTo all the players, supporters, sponsors, opponents & general rugby enthusiasts visiting the Dubai Hurricanes Website, a warm welcome.

Gulf Rugby has encountered an amazing transition over the last few years. At the Dubai Hurricanes we are attempting to keep pace with the improved levels while retaining our high level of social activities & hospitality. Fortunately the main strength of our club is the spirit & camaraderie amongst our members, long may it continue.

I hope this allows all guests to our club to enjoy their visit whether they win, lose or draw. Rugby was built on hospitality & a “family” friendly atmosphere, one I hope is always evident at the Hurricanes both on & off the pitch.

Good Health To You All.

Chairman Paul
